Los Angeles County Office of Education Extends RMTS Monitoring and Oversight Contract with Fairbanks

The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), the nation’s largest regional education agency providing a range of programs and services to promote academic and financial stability to the county’s 80 school districts and the achievement of more than 2 million preschool and school-age children, has awarded a contract to Fairbanks to provide program expertise, consulting services and technical assistance to LACOE in fulfilling its monitoring, certification, claim review, oversight responsibilities and other services relating to the submission of School Medicaid Administrative Activities (SMAA) claiming invoices on behalf of all the local education agencies in LACOE’s region.

The competitively bid contract allows LACOE to engage Fairbanks for up to five (5) years to assist LACOE in assuring that the LEAs in its region comply with the state and federal requirements in compiling, processing and approving the submission of SMAA invoices to the California Department of Health Care Services for reimbursement under the Medicaid Administrative Claiming Program. Fairbanks will assist in training of LACOE staff, assisting LACOE in assuring LEAs comply with CMS-approved implementation plans including training, testing and validation of time study coding as well as evaluating the MAA invoices submitted for accuracy and appropriateness.
