Chicago, Illinois, August 01, 2013
Fairbanks Principal Rick Jacobs was interviewed and quoted for an article published by the American Association of School Administrators Magazine, School Administrator, for their August 2013 edition featuring a special section on the role of schools in providing mental health services to their students. The article can be found at the following link: http://www.aasa.org/content.aspx?id=28966
In the article “Tangled Web of Medicaid and Mental Health Services” written by Sasha Pudelski, the complexities and challenges of obtaining Medicaid reimbursement for mental health services in the schools are discussed. Jacobs provides his perspective on some of the key challenges that affect the ability of schools to obtain Medicaid reimbursement as well as some of the inconsistencies between the funding of services provided in the community to Medicaid beneficiaries and to those same beneficiaries in the schools.
Also mentioned in the article is the important contributions that both AASA and the National Alliance for Medicaid in Education (NAME) make in helping school districts throughout the country to obtain the Medicaid resources available to help schools meet the health and mental health related services needs of their students. Fairbanks is honored to support both organizations in their respective roles in support of Medicaid in schools.
